【カナダの大学】大学院への願書申請 その２ ”エッセイの書き方”
（トロントで開催されていたスタンリーキューブリック展にて展示物）
※分かる人は、どの映画で使われていたか直ぐに分かるはずｗ
エッセイに関しては、自分の経歴（学習してきた内容、仕事の経験）を簡潔に説明した上で、なぜその大学院で学ぶ必要があるのか？また、卒業後の進路についての記載を行いました。自分のエッセイ作成プロセスとしては、以下の手順で行いました。
（作成の手順）
１．大まかな自分のキャリア、学習経験の棚卸し
→３．のプロセス終了後にここに立ち返る場合もあります。なにか、人にはない特別な経験ってあったかなーとか色々と思い出すこともあるので。

２．なにを学びたいのか、またそれが将来どのような目標につながるのかの棚卸し
↓
３．大まかに決めていた、大学院／研究室についてさらに情報を集める
→出来れば、ターゲットとなる研究室について事前に情報が集められれば良いと思います。その方がより具体的なエッセイを作成する事が出来ます。

４．ドラフト版として、大枠を作り上げる（細かい点は、後ほど修正する）
→ドラフト作成について何人かの英語教師と話しましたが、日本で作られる職務経歴書と同じである程度の誇張は、暗黙の了解として許されるように思いました。まぁ、明らかな嘘はもちろんダメですｗ

５．数日後に再度、初めて読む立場になりきって自分のドラフト版を推敲・修正

６．大学単位で、自分のエッセイを書き直す
（大学によって求める人材像や研究内容が異なる、また字数制限も異なる為）

７．ネイティブスピーカーに、英語の表現が間違っていないか添削をして貰う。自分の場合には、カナダでお世話になっていた英語教師に添削を手伝って貰いました。
※もしも、そんな知り合い居ないよ！っていう人は、Italkiあたりを利用して個人レッスン対応してくれる先生を見つけて添削して貰うという方法が個人的にはおすすめです。大学卒業した先生とかを捕まえて、多少のお金を支払ってでもみて貰った方が良いかと思います。

８．添削結果を確認した上で反映

９．最終確認として、もう一度読んでみて訂正

１０．完成（各大学に対して提出）
こんな感じです、願書提出に関する本を2冊ほど購入して、定型となるフォーマットや使えそうな表現をテンプレートとして使いました。実際にそういった本自体が少ないので、選択肢はあまり多くないのですが・・・・・。そして、何度も表現は練り直す事という事も記載されており、ネイティブスピーカーですらドラフト状態で完璧には作れないようです。（ま、日本語でも同じですけど）
ここで、思ったのはＴＯＥＦＬやＩＥＬＴＳ等のライティング部分の勉強が役に立ったなって事です。もちろん、字数や構成は異なるのですが、どうやってアカデミックな文章を作成するべきか、また最初に読者を惹きつけられる内容を盛り込む事が出来るのか？って知識が非常に役にたちました。確かに子供っぽい表現で記述しても、説得力は無いですしね・・・・。
参考までに、こんなの感じで作りましたというイメージになります。
自分の前職がチョット特殊な感じなので、参考に出来る部分は少ないかもですが、IT系の経歴と何を学びたいのか又、何を卒業した後にしたいのかを記述しました。
During my IT Audit interview, a stuff member of on of my clients mentioned that IT Security Audit was a waste of time and they did not want to be involved in the IT Audit project as an interviewee. Unfortunately, in Japan, although IT security and networking are very important factors to complete business successfully, many employees and employers do not find them useful. This is because few IT Engineers who acquire cutting edge IT network technology and knowledge can offer beneficial and effective IT services and knowledge for their customers to maintain and improve their customers’ business. Furthermore, I would like to offer my valuable skills and experiences to my future clients to do business successfully. Therefore, I decided to apply for ****** program, and I am confident that this program will enable me to achieve my career goals.
When I was a child, I really liked new technology things and electronics devices such as a PC. It is why I graduated from my University as an Electronic Engineer. However, when I coded my program for calculating the amount of energy that ******* made during my university, IT technology made me so curious. After that, I decided to work an IT company. Now I have more than 10 years of work experiences as a full-time IT Auditor and IT Security Consultant in some Japanese companies. In my workplaces, I had high responsibilities to guarantee the successful result of the audit and the improvement of the client’s IT security level. By consulting services, I think that I could provide adequate quality services to my clients by fundamental IT network and security knowledge, however, at the same time, I was with lack of relatively IT networking and IT technology knowledge and experiences. For example, I could not offer my client enough information on how to analyze and check the packet data to detect unauthorized access. I recognized that I should study relatively new methods, and I should connect it with my work experience.
After graduation from the university, my short-term goal is to incorporate the combination of my work experiences and new knowledge to provide better consulting and audit services to my future customers. I used to analyze IT risks in my client’s companies. If I acquire new IT technology knowledge, I believe that I can offer better solutions to solve the IT risks that I pointed out. My long-term goal is to be a high school IT teacher. When I get to be late 50’s or 60’s, I want to teach my experiences to high school students.
In ******** program, the classes such as “Network Security” and “Advanced Topics in Network Security” should be useful for me. After this program, I can develop new technical approaches to solve a wide variety of problems, and I would like to be able to handle a wide variety of business problems from small companies to big companies.
I am eager to develop new IT Networking Technology knowledge to improve my audit and consulting career. Now, I am confident your program would provide both the tools and inspiration to enable me to make an impact in this field.
